Applications for the PYA Ballard Innovation Award are now being accepted for 2025. The application will be accepted until 2024. Residents of the state of Tennessee can apply for the PYA Ballard Innovation Award.

Through this program, the top five finalists will be invited to a live “pitch” event in March at a date and location to be announced. During that time, the winners will be selected.

The PYA Ballard Innovation Award 2025

The Ballard Innovation Award is the largest gift of cash and in-kind services available to East Tennessee entrepreneurs and startups, a reflection of PYA’s commitment to the region.

Residents of the state of Tennessee (including Chattanooga, Knoxville, and the Tri-Cities) will be eligible to apply for the Ballard Innovation Award application.

The selected winner of the PYA Ballard Innovation Award will get prizes like:

1st Place

The first-place winner will receive:

• $50,000 package of capital and in-kind services:
  • $10,000 of Monetary Capital
  • $  2,500 of In-Kind Tax Advisory Support
  • $  7,500 of In-Kind Outsourced Accounting
  • $10,000 of In-Kind Marketing Support
  • $10,000 of In-Kind Strategy Support
  • $10,000 of In-Kind Video Development
• Marketing and promotional awareness through earned media
• Physical award for presentation and marketing purposes

2nd Place

• $10k of In-Kind Strategy Support
• Mention in marketing/media collateral

3rd Place

• $5k of In-Kind Strategy Support

Eligibility requirements for Ballard Innovation Award Application

Eligibility Criteria

This award competition is open to all early-stage companies in the East Tennessee area that have established “proof of concept” with revenue.

Applicants must submit a business plan to optimize existing business operations by reducing costs, increasing revenue, and/or achieving new efficiencies while demonstrating clear innovations to improve business and empower the consumer.

Required Qualification

A company should be included in the applicant qualifications given below.

• Located in the geographic East Tennessee region (33 counties as defined by the state of TN) – metro areas include Chattanooga, Knoxville, and the Tri-Cities.
• Has established a “proof of concept” with revenue (as outlined).
• Have secured financial resources (including revenue, capital, grants, self-funding, friends or family) totaling at least $200,000.
• Must have a business plan to design and optimize existing business operations by reducing costs, increasing revenue, and gaining new efficiencies.
• Can demonstrate a clear innovation that will improve the business.
  Focuses on empowering the consumer to be more informed and engaged.
