CAL FIRE Wildfire Prevention Grants Program – FY 2023-2024
CAL FIRE- Wildfire Prevention Grants Program FY 2023-2024: CalFire is a special Grants Program for Wildfire Prevention Projects and Activities in California. Through this grant program, funds are made available for wildfire prevention projects and activities near fire-prone communities that focus on enhancing the safety of people, structures, and communities.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) grant program has a maximum allowable funding amount cap of $5 million and equipment purchase limits increased from $250,000 to $750,000 cumulatively.

The Wildfire Prevention and Forest Health Grant Program is part of California Climate Investments. a statewide program that commits billions of cap-and-trade dollars to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the economy, and improve public health and the environment, especially for disadvantaged communities.
CAL FIRE’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program seeks to award up to $120 million to local projects that will focus on enhancing the safety of people, structures, and communities. Eligible activities will include hazardous fuel reduction, wildfire prevention planning, and wildfire prevention education, with an emphasis on improving public health and safety while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The WP Grants Program funds three types of activities including hazardous fuels reduction, wildfire prevention planning, and wildfire prevention education.
Eligibility Criteria for CAL FIRE- Wildfire Prevention Grants Program
The following are the eligibility criteria for the California fire prevention grants Wildfire Prevention.
Eligible Applicants:
- Local Government
- Academic Institutions
- Native American Tribe
- Non Profits
- Other
- Schools/School Districts
- State Government
Eligible applicants include but are not limited to the following:
- State Agencies
- Federal Agencies
- Native American Tribes
- Joint Powers Authority (JPA) if the entities involved are eligible applicants
- Local agencies, including:
- Cities, counties
- Fire protection districts
- Community services districts
- Water districts
- Resource conservation districts
- Special districts
- Certified local conservation corps
- Fire Safe Councils with a 501(c)(3) designation
- Other qualified non-profit organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation
